MEDHA is founded by its namesake Medha Batra, who hails from a family with a 65 year long legacy in the production and design of ethnic Indian fashion and couture. At a young age, her innate creative desires began to percolate surrounded by a growing up within a design and business family at home and experimenting with embroidery and design in their ateliers.
After graduating from Nottingham with a degree in Business Management, she went on to FIDM for a degree in Fashion Design, and then went on to an intensive short course at the London College of Fashion to broaden her formal understanding the global fashion methods and industry. This culminated in a formative experience in the formal wear department of BCBG Max Azria. Her education and experimentation from these institutions compunded her strong interests into finally entering the fore herself.
The Collection features intricate and stand out zardozi, mukesh and hand guided machine embroidery design stories in themes like "Celestia", "Galaxy", "Disco", "Flora Vine". These are complemented with a liberal use of distinctive proportions, voluminous layers and exaggerated silhouettes that have interpreted Indian Ethnic wear from a whimsical lens.
Using materials and drape to flatter form, there is a balance of natural and blends, from pure silk to poly Crepe de Chine. The colour palette plays with an abundance of Sea Teals and Turquouises, Cloudy Greys and shaded Nudes with a few bold luscious Red and deep Black ensembles.
